In my experience there are days when you make poor choices and then there are days when the choices you make defy all manner of logic and good sense. Watching the Human Centipede (First Sequence) yesterday on a day I was battling a bad flu-like bug was the latter without question.

Just very poor judgement on my part.

If you are ever in need of something to make you drop your jaw and scream WTF at the top of your lungs; this is the flick for you.

Currently available in small independent theatres and on demand from IFC, Human Centipede (First Sequence) lulls you into a false sense of security by giving you what you know. Two pretty Americans travelling through Europe on vacation, car trouble, a dark and stormy night … a deranged German surgeon intent on creating a Human Centipede… wait – what now?

Sick, twisted, and ultimately stupid this movie is a pass unless you are looking for help starting a bout with Bullemia.

The dude who plays the mad scientist is effective in a 1930′s Universal Monster movie kind of way I guess but really there is no redeeming social message or warning here except to stay the F out of Germany and I was already doing THAT.

Blech.

Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari . . . this site appears very differently on each.

Some stuff works . . . some stuff don’t.  Life is like that.  If you are using Firefox then you should see a cool picture of a shark eating the Golden Gate Bridge over there on the right.

If you are using Internet Explorer then the picture  is on the bottom of the screen and it’s huge. I do not know why.

I could just get rid of it, but I like it.  If you are using Opera – I have no idea what you are looking at as I do not have Opera.

 This is not to say that Opera is not good.  I just don’t have it.  I also don’t have Google Chrome so good luck with that as well.

I guess the bottom line is that if you are here looking for cutting edge browser technology, you may be on the wrong website.   This is not that kind of party. So if the site looks all “wonky” I apologize, but I’m not spending a whole lot of time figuring out why.

(It looks pretty good on an iPad by the way . . .)

iPad + Netflix is a BIG WIN.

My first immpressions of the Apple iPad were that I didn’t need a big iPod Touch device with less storage for more money.

I was wrong.

I took my Mom shopping for a Netbook and she had picked out a perfectly capable Asus model that would handle all of her needs for less than three hundred bucks when she bumped into the amazing shiny Apple tablet.

It was love at first sight.

A day later we actually found a 32GB WiFi model in stock at the Apple store and the minute we pointed it at her home network I realized I may have been too hasty in giving the device the brush off.

Sure it can’t play Flash content; but there are about a thousand things it CAN do; not the least of which is stream Netflix content with incredible clarity. I swear watching streamed movies on the iPad was flawless. No buffering issues, no digital artifacts, crisp picture and total portability. The fact that Netflix has a TREMENDOUS library of content for a very affordable price doesn’t hurt either. Their plans start at about 9 bucks a month for unlimited streaming content and one physical dvd out at a time; much cheaper than a months worth of renting discs or paying for premium cable. The library is pretty current as well as they already have the Starz series “Spartacus – Blood and Sand” available for instant streaming and that has not even hit DVD yet.

All in all – very nice device with broad appeal to many levels of users.

I may need to rob a bank or something to get my own shiny Apple iPad soon . . .

Just out of curiosity; if you were putting together the STARK Expo as a sort of global – REBIRTH of your company and the ideals of your dear old Dad; why did it occur to NO ONE in said company to check with Justin Hammer as to the content of his presentation.

I don’t run a multi billion dollar arms company – I just have this silly little blog; but I can ASSURE you that if another dude with a silly blog told me he wanted to use MY blog to present HIS stuff I would ask some questions. The least of which being -WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO PRESENT?

I’m guessing that if Ms. Potts picked up the phone and said “Hi Justin Hammer, just checking in to see what are you going to need for the big presentation?” and got the answer – “A bunch of bleachers for my new robot army and maybe a good entrance way for Commander Rhodes to fly the stolen Mark 2 suit in would be good. And some Evian.”   If THIS had happened she probably would have told him that there was a scedule conflict and given shell head a bigger heads up.  I would think.

Ok – Another question – remember in the first Iron man movie when Tony built the Mark 2 armor and spent a  10 minute training montage learning to fly it? Remember how he scorched the cars, and gave himself a concussion, and blasted through the roof and so on and so forth until FINALLY he got the hang of it in what appeared to be at least a few DAYS later . . . with me? Ok – so how come Rhodey Rhodes is able to just hop in the Mark 2 armor and face off against Iron man like it’s how he spends every Tuesday night?  Because he’s a fighter pilot?  I call Bullshit.

ALSO – How did he get the Mark 2 armor OFF?  Unless I am wrong there is a whole mechanical process to this . . . you don’t just grab a can opener . . . I mean imagine the reason Tony uses that whole “robot” thing is not because he’s LAZY.    I imagine.

So ahhh, if the Iron Man 2 armor and power core is so incredibly advanced and Tony is some tech genius savant, why can EVERYBODY who spends twenty minutes alone with it PIMP it out into something they can call their own?  I swear if you left the Mark 3 armor in the Bronx for a weekend that shit would show up on the news with fog lights and a spolier.

All that being said:  

I really enjoyed Iron Man 2. Of all of the comic book movies that they make in the modern age of “blockbuster tent pole” movies this one feels the most like an ACTUAL comic book.   The story can be enjoyed without knowing who all the background players are but if you do happen to know Nick Fury, Hulk, Thor and Captain America it adds another layer to the fun. It also extremely disposable. It’s a blast while your there and then you move onto something else. All my favorite comic books feel like this. The sum of all of them is greater than any one issue in particular.  

I also have no issues at all with The Black Widow.  Her fight scene was extremely well executed and provided my favorite moment of humor in the movie. More please.

ALSO – The way they used the shield of Captain America was so awesome in this film I actually gasped at the brilliance of it.  Subtle, telling, and funny as hell.  Especially cool was the fact that it was also in Iron man 1 with just as much importance.  It’s a great piece of characterization that the very symbol of the greatest soldier America has ever known is just laying around in his workshop.

I can’t wait to see the Avengers. God I hope they do the right gutsy thing and make HULK the villian of that one.

Oh – one LAST thing – Stan Lee ; the cameo in the Iron Man 2 Dr. Pepper commercial was better than the one in the actual movie.

Maybe it’ s enuff already.
