Blah, blah blog.

January 21, 2008

I’m not writing one of those “Welcome to my blog, blah , blah , blah sunshine and rainbows, In this blog I’m gonna tell you all my innermost thoughts on Unicorns and the first world war ” posts.

I’m a 38 year old former Comic Book writing, native New Yorker with a deep love of video games, movies and animation. I’m working my way through a particularly painful third re-write of a novella that I hope to publish before my inevitable death from a legendary sized overdose of Oreos and Dunkin Donuts coffee.

I have nothing else I am willing to divulge at this point about those subjects and leave you at this time with my current thoughts on the big three -

1 Nintendo Wii

That was fun for like twenty minutes but I think the fact that I mostly use the Wii to play Super Mario 64 (A game I already owned before I bought the “virtual” cartridge speaks volumes about Nintendos ability to wrench cash from my wallet. That being said, My 7 year old daughter spends hours creating Miis, so maybe Nintendo should go into the virtual paper doll business…

2. Sony Playstation 3

Wow. This thing is awe inspiring and Resistance- Fall of Man is quite possibly the longest damn single player campaign I have ever experienced. Everytime I was sure it was about to end – 3 more hours . . . excellent. I love the built in wireless connectivity and the web browser is 30 times better than the one on the Wii but something about this system . . . just . . . eh. Well the online play is horrible. Just too complicated to find my friends or stay with a party in Unreal Tournament without 2 hours of research. Unreal Tournament 3 is too fast. It feels like a video game, not a shooter. There I said it. It’s too pretty. PAIN on the other hand is CLASSIC. I love that stupid game and it was worth all 10 bucks and probably 5 more. BUT – the thing so far is really just a Blu Ray player that can play Video games. Luckilly, I love Blu Ray movies. . .

3. Microsoft X-Box 360

This is the one. This is what it was meant to be the first time Atari cranked out a system . . . This little white dream box is the bomb. Sure it’s too loud, sure your first 2 will die horrible red ringed premature deaths, but this is the one we waited for. (Outside in the cold actually) and this is the one that wins. Gears of War, Halo3, Just those two would have been enough for me, but – the X-box live network (recent issues not included) is the fastest, easiest to use and most fun. I have neglected mine as of late while learning what the PS3 could do, but like the governor of California terrorizing mankinds only hope – I’ll be back . . .

Until then I leave you with a picture of my daughter and Chewbacca – Not because you asked, but because I want to.
